Early Morning Workouts? A solution to a hectic schedule.

Let’s be honest, with the demands of school, work and family, fitting in a workout is a struggle. For many of us, exercising during the day is not accessible or convenient, and by the end of the day, the last thing we want to do is exercise! However, there may be a window of opportunity in the morning to squeeze your workout in. Here are five reasons why you may want to consider adding an early morning workout to your routine.

1. People that exercise in the morning tend to be more consistent with their workouts, making it is easier to maintain a regular routine. If you avoid conflicts and distractions and get your reps in at the start of your day, you will be less likely to skip your workout or scramble to fit it in.

2. Research indicates working out increases mental focus and energy levels. Why not start the day with the potential for more productivity?

3. Post-exercise, your metabolism is elevated, and you continue to burn extra energy all day long. Even though you will be getting up earlier, you will sleep better as your body will need rest to recover at the end of the day.

4. Mornings may just suit you better as, for most of us, exercising in the evening makes it harder to fall asleep!

5. Finally, by completing your fitness regime in the morning, you will likely make healthier choices for the rest of the day.

"For some people, it will never happen, and that's okay."

How do you know if you have a morning exerciser in you? Be honest. For some people, it will never happen, and that’s okay. Give it at least a month of early sessions to adjust to the morning routine – this includes going to bed a bit earlier. Remember to have a small snack before your workout. You may have to experiment with what foods work best with your body.
